Max Perutz Labs Scientific Report
Editorial Design
Discoveries in biomedical research are journeys into an unknown, fascinating world down to the smallest units of life. The Max Perutz Labs Vienna are dedicated to basic research, asking new, unexpected questions and using their research to visualize fundamental mechanisms and new connections.
The Max Report 2020–2023 shows the dynamic development of the institute, the teams of researchers and their scientific successes. It provides an insight into their innovative research and working methods.
The dynamic key visual
The disciplines of research and design are closely related. They are both driven by curiosity on their journey into uncharted territory. This similar way of their creative working methodology is the basic idea behind the visual experiment for the main visual. It builds up from the smallest “seed” to complex patterns and takes the reader on a journey through the dimensions. The organically growing visual is generatively developed with processing tools on the basis of different parameters to a variety of images throughout the report.
Einleitung
Stills structure the sections of the publication. They tell the story of the Max Perutz Labs’ mission: to explore and understand fascinating biological systems across all scales.
Outreach & Reshaping
It’s not just the field of research at the Max Perutz Labs that has evolved continuously. We redesigned central areas of the research building on the Vienna BioCenter Campus – with a rooftop café, study lounges and a spacious new foyer. Together with the new travelling exhibition on the fascinating personality Max Perutz, these successful projects are documented in the report. The Vienna BioCenter map is also used as a handout for the onboarding of new team members.
Max Perutz Life
Finally, a last chapter gives an insight into the life of Max Perutz, his approach to research with the crowning Nobel Prize – an invitation to visit the travelling exhibition and learn more about the Max Perutz Labs.
