Architecture Biennale die Venezia 2014

Identity

The theme of the Austrian Pavillon at the Architecture Biennale di Venezia in 2014 was „Political Representation“. Exhibition graphics, a pocket guide, two websites and a book discussed and visualized the curators analytical view on the world’s 196 parliaments.

Key visual of the exhibition was an architectural model of all parliament buildings, together with their corresponding national flags. A software calculated the colors mostly used in flags and put them accordingly into a new order. Following this principle of rearrangement, the infographic gives a whole new per perspective onto the world.

The accompanying pocket catalogue is designed like a color chart and communicates further facts to countries and parliaments, as well as the status quo of democracy, dictatorship and political happenings around the world. The parliaments are displayed in their context of urban planning and geography. The typography plays with the represented diversity and changes from italic left to right and between small and capital letters.

The corporate design plays with an alternation of left- and right-cursive typography; upper- and lowercase letters refer to diversity in parliaments and the different political camps.

The pocket guide, at the same time a handy exhibition catalog, visualizes page by page in illustrations building typologies, their urban and geographical context to all 196 parliaments.
